New York: Ballantine Books, 1990. 9.5" x 6.75" pp. [12], 518, [10], first edition, fifth printing. Custom binding by Spires Bindery in Lansing, Michigan, small label applied to the inside back cover. Brown Morocco covers with applied state of Minnesota and tree with "up" arrow, as well as gilt stamped title and author on the cover and spine. A shadow "Minnesota" is seen stamped lightly behind the applied piece. Feather marbled end papers. Includes a tipped-in postcard addressed to Robert Mareck, the Lansing binder, from Jon Hassler, "North of Hope never looked so handsome [...]." Signed and dated later by Hassler on the half title page. Ever slight wear along the text block and leather appliqués, overall very good. Item #2732

Celebrated Minnesota author Jon Hassler (1933-2008) was born in Minneapolis and grew up in the small towns of Staples and Plainview. He received degrees from St. John's University and the University of North Dakota. Hassler wrote about the places he was raised in small town Minnesota..
